Background checks may differ based on the type of visa, permit or permanent residence program you applied for. They include:

Police check: applicant is checked for a criminal record.

Biometrics review: RCMP will check your fingerprints against the fingerprint records of criminals, refugee claimants, deportees, and temporary resident applicants

Document verification: all of your documents will be verified by contacting the government agencies, education institutions or financial institutions that provided them.

Employment history or work experience verification: your past and/or present employers will be contacted to verify employment references and work experience.

Any of the information or documents you have provided with your application will be verified in your background check.
